Gifts to the Future
What are You “Wiping” Out?
If your house is still full of paper products that wipe out forests, let’s talk. Every tree we leave alone wipes CO2 out of the sky for a living. No fancy machines needed. No effort. Just, let them do their thing.
Paper products – toilet paper, paper towels, tissues, napkins, cups, plates, baking parchment, and more – waste all this helpful goodness. Overhaul your paper goods game and leave the trees to clean up the future for us. You can do better!
Better Materials
- Recycled – everything you could possibly need is *at least* available in recycled versions — maybe just start there?
- Bamboo – brands like Bambu for tableware or Reel, Cloud Paper, and caboo for toilet paper (and many more) are all made from fast-growing, easily renewed, CO2 consuming bamboo. (We use Reel at our short term rental business because it’s also premium quality, Black-owned, auto ships, and we like that proceeds help fight human trafficking. Try it for $10 off!)
- Alternative fibers – Sugar Cane, Corn, Bagasse, and other alternative fiber paper goods are also great options
- Biodegradable and Compostable – no matter what they’re made of, look for products that are easily recycled, composted, or otherwise biodegradable (and then let them do that).
Better Use
- Instead of paper towels, stock lots of cleaning rags and then just wash for reuse
- Recycled plastic tableware and really cheap metal flatware last a lifetime of parties and picnics
- Substitute reusable makeup remover wipes, washable mop pads, and toilet paper sprays instead of disposable wipes
Better Disposal
- Recycling paper and cardboard is practical and smart, but not everything can be recycled
- Composting works great for nearly every paper good, and all that carbon gets better results
- Look for fabric/fiber recycling when reusable fabric replacements hit their end of life
