Gifts to the Future
As the world starts celebrating Hanukkah a sundown, let’s talk light.
LED bulbs save money by consuming 90% less energy than regular incandescent ones. Since they last ~30 times as long, the bulbs also cost way less than regular ones (and save you time replacing all those burned out bulbs).
Depending on where you live, LED bulbs might even be discounted or free check with both your utility company and your state to find out.
Baby steps:
- Check with your utility and your state for LED bulb promotions
- Order a box (or more) of bulbs to have on hand whenever an old bulb goes out
- Count up every bulb in the house so you can plan to replace them all
- Take pictures on your phone of unconventional bulbs and fixtures so you can find specialty bulbs
Do more with light:
- Research that solar (heat or electricity) upgrade project you’ve been thinking about
- Look into upgrading or adding high efficiency windows and options for passive solar heating
- Find out if you can invest in community solar
